In 2019, a group of high schoolers in Kansas City, Missouri, founded the Social Justice Club for middle school students. Since 2020, the initiative has expanded to include youth around the world through biweekly Zoom meetings, collaborative projects, justice-centered art contests, and global citizenship summer camps. Now in its seventh year, over 2,000 children and youth have participated in these activities, and many more have been impacted through participants’ community service initiatives.
Through action and reflection, we work to build a critical understanding of the values and experiences that connect us across cultures and nations. By engaging in conversations and service projects, we nurture the diverse talents and capacities that make for vibrant, thriving communities.
Within this framework, we encourage youth to reflect on the personal qualities and attitudes that are necessary for building a more just society, such as:
Striving for excellence
Choosing the right means to reach worthy ends
Moral courage
Discovering one's passion
Independent thinking
Mutual care
Cooperation
